Our dreams are held back by reality. Never lose sight of your dreams. When you close your eyes, everything you see if just as important as real life. Those dreams remind you of the freedom you could have if you really wanted it. You may not to be able to fly without wings, but that doesn’t stop you from flying and reaching for the stars. Dreams are there to remind us of how fun it is to put reality on the shelf and enjoy the wild, crazy, untouched sides of life. We can be who we want, when we want. That doesn’t change in reality. Your dreams are reaching out to you. If you ignore them, you will be stuck in a reality base world with no room for anything but what the eye’s see. What’s more important, is the stories you see when your eyes are closed. Every dream is a short story, a vivid showing of what could be or what has already been. Open your eyes and keep your dreams alive.
Some of us turn to religion, some to science, I choose to turn to myself. My beliefs are just as important as any. Just because I choose to follow my own lead, doesn’t mean that I am lost. I have provided myself with guidelines to help me reach my goals. I’m different from most people, but so are you. If you find yourself lost, with few things to believe in, just believe in yourself. Be your own religion. You are smart enough to make wise choices in life, but you’re also human enough to make mistakes. We don’t need religion to tell us what’s right and what’s wrong, we know what’s good for us and what isn’t. What’s bad for one isn’t always necessarily bad for the other. If you have to take a longer road than most, well so be it. You just have to make sure that you walk that road with a certain sense of pride. Walk with your head high and your map laid out in front you. Organize your trip. Know when to start, when to rest, and when to reach out for help. Never lose hope in yourself. Have as much faith in yourself as religious types have in their God. Be your higher power, be your creator. Your mind is your most powerful tool. As long as you believe in your mind, your heart will follow. Wherever you want to go, whatever you want to be, is up to you. You have that power within you to do anything you want. You may not be able to walk on water, but you have the power to change anything within you and around you. All you have to do is just believe, in yourself.
Ever since I could remember, I have been a dreamer. There hasn’t been one night of my life that I can recall not having a dream or a nightmare. As a kid this used to frighten me at times. I didn’t know if it was normal for me to dream every time I fell asleep. Not only did I dream at night but even during the day or when I’d doze off. As time went on I became more understanding of my dreams. I knew that there wasn’t anything wrong with a kid who dreamed too much. I even started to like my nightmares. I was already a big horror fan so my nightmares were like scary movies, only I was the star.
Today, I still dream constantly. My dreams aren’t simple dreams. Most of the time I can’t even tell when I’m dreaming. I become so engulfed in the imaginary world around me when I’m sleeping. Everything is just as real as anything to me when I were awake. At some point in time my dreams and nightmares became an escape from life. When I was going through tough times I always looked forward to going to sleep because I knew I didn’t have to deal with real life issues. After my father passed when I was in the 7th grade, my dreams had become more important to me. My dreams became the only place I could spend time with him. I have memories of my father from my dreams that are just as important as the actual memories we shared when he was alive. After his death, I tried to dream of him every night by thinking of him all day. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn’t. Either way, I knew I’d see him again and I was happy with that.
Even when I wasn’t dreaming of my father, I was dreaming about something so out of the ordinary that it seemed real to me. In my dreams, I could be anything or anyone at anytime. I really took a liking to this. I’ve been kings, presidents, lion tamers, ghosts, animals, superheroes, you name it and I’ve been it inside of my dreams. This was a whole different world outside of the real world. Sleep became a nightly adventure for me. There was no telling what I was going to be when I closed my eyes. I just knew I wasn’t going to have to feel the burden of real life. Til this day, dreams are still my escape and they always will be. When life gets me down, I fall asleep and drift away from anything and everything real.
Never let a dream go to waste. Don’t let the nightmares of reality tarnish your dreams. Keep a positive vibe and drain out the negativity. In your mind, you can be whatever you want to be. As long as you believe you can do something, there’s always a very real possibility it could happen. The sky is the limit and the ground can’t hold you down.
One thing I cannot and will not ever understand is how humans want to fit this certain mold. The American dream is what we all want right? To be married, hand in hand with your spouses looking out the window at that tire swing. Those images of “normal” have been pumped into our minds by our family, our friends, and the media, for a very long time now. I’m personally not one of those people who settle for normal. I want to live my life beyond “normal”. Work, marriage, kids, those things may happen no matter what type of life you lead. It’s also important not to lose sight of all else that matters to you. Your family may come first, but at one point they didn’t. Never lose sight of what came first when it was just you and your dreams.
Some say that everything happens for a reason. That may be true but you have to make some of those things happen. If you forget what it is you want, then you’ll just end up accepting whatever it is you get. Don’t just accept anything, make things happen for yourself. Every person forgets when they were this young and ambitious person before they were married or had kids or had to work overtime. You still are that person, you just have to dig deep to find him along with everything else you might have lost. If you have dreams, never stop chasing them, because if you lose them, you’ll just end up looking for them all over again.
